CURIOUS THINGS

Rabštejn nad Střelou is a picturesque town in the Pilsen Region in the Czech Republic. It lies along the Strela and is known for its historical and natural beauty.

 

With a certain amount of historical and geographical tolerance, Rabštejn nad Střelou can be considered the smallest Czech town. The privilege of using this title was granted to Rabštejn by John of Luxembourg as early as 1337. And the number of historical attractions and the life of the local residents testify to the fact that this town really deserves its privilege.

Early Middle Ages

The first mentions of Rabštejn nad Střelou come from the 13th century. At that time, the region was part of important trade and military routes that passed through the Česká kotlina.

Rabštejn Castle

Medieval Castle: The main historical element of Rabštejn nad Střelou is its medieval castle. The castle was founded in the second half of the 13th century, and during its existence it served as a defensive fortress. It was built on a rocky outcrop above the Střela River, which gave it a strategic advantage.

Important Events: In the 15th century, during the Hussite Wars, the castle was occupied and destroyed several times. After these events, the castle was partially restored, but its importance gradually declined.

Modern age

Restoration and Destruction: In the following centuries, the castle lost its strategic importance and began to decay. In the 18th century the castle was partially rebuilt and in the 19th century it became a romantic destination for local visitors.

Presence: Today only the ruins of the castle remain, but they still provide a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside and remind of its rich past.
